Twenty-six tribes federally recognized U.S. tribes live on and manage a total of 8,264,537 acres within the boundaries of the Desert LCC. In addition, there are tribes without U.S. federally recognized designation and tribes and indigenous peoples in Mexico within the geography. The Desert LCC is working to address climate change issues that threaten the natural and cultural resources that have historically sustained indigenous people in the southwest and provide tools for tribal partners to identify climate change impacts on significant resources and develop strategies to protect the tribal heritage and way of life.
